Mission

To Celebrate Girls
American Girl is there for girls every step of the way—as they begin to read, start school, face issues about friends and family, and dream about setting off on their own adventures. It is no wonder that our titles have graced the bestseller lists of the New York Times, Publishers Weekly and BookSense, in addition to garnering dozens of awards from parents groups and industry leaders.

Character Books
American Girl’s character books feature historical fiction that teaches history, traditions, and values, artfully weaving together education and entertainment. Each character’s story is told in six compelling books, focusing on family, school, holiday, birthday, summer, and winter adventures. Gentle life lessons throughout the stories remind girls of such lasting values as the importance of family and friends, compassion, responsibility, and forgiveness. Full of wisdom and encouragement, the stories show girls how to meet their own challenges with strength and courage

As these stories are translated to other media, they are finding new audiences and continued success.
American Girl’s extremely popular TV movies include Samantha: An American Girl Holiday
(2004)
, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure (2005), and Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front
(2006)
. Then in 2008, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl debuted in theaters nationwide. As American
Girl’s first-ever theatrical movie, girls and parents were excited to see Kit’s inspiring story brought to
life in a completely new way. In 2009, American Girl released its first full-length DVD featuring a Girl of the Year character. Produced by HBO Films and Sobini Films, An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong reached girls nationwide with its positive message of friendship, and won a 2009 Gold Award from National Parenting Publications (NAPPA).
